Cardiac Rehabilitation
Note: Cardiac problems are very serious business!! I do not recommend
that you attempt to self-treat cardiovascular conditions. If you have a
personal or family history of heart problems, I recommend a thorough examination
by qualified medical professionals. (Before anyone embarks on an exercise
program it is advisable to consult with your doctor.) Following any cardiac
event you are strongly advised to participate in supervised cardiac rehab
programs, and seek the approval of qualified experts before beginning any
independent exercise program. A number of cardiac rehab programs around
the country have already incorporated Exerstriding into their structured
programs.
"Four years ago, to my horror, I was diagnosed with Angina Pectoris.
For therapy I had to attend a local cardiovascular clinic and become involved
in a demanding exercise program, wired with electrodes and surrounded by
hovering medical personnel. It was expensive, boring and indoors--and I
began to yearn for fresh air and light and wonder if I'd be tied
to the inconvenience of machinery for the rest of my life--and if there
would be anything left of my savings.
Then my daughter gave me a pair of Exerstriders for my 71st birthday
and I began to take charge of my own health. There really was no ˜learning
time,' I just picked them up and walked. I now walk 2-3 miles about
three times a week, and take a strenuous 20-minute walk every morning,
up and down steep hills where I live. My condition has improved so dramatically
that a recent exam with a Long Island heart specialist showed no blockage
of arteries or heart, and a vastly lowered cholesterol and blood pressure.
My health appears to be almost back to normal! The Exerstriders have added
that extra bit of fun and motivation to getting out; they let me walk with
a straight back and pulled-in stomach, and my torso and arms are given
an added workout as I stride along. I look forward to my walk every day,
and have even taken the ˜Striders' on 3 trips , two to Europe
and one to the western U.S. I'm really grateful to Tom Rutlin for
his invention, and for a chance to regain a balanced body."
